Watching Heart by Daphne Meyer
Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti in 1966, Daphne Meyer studied Graphic Arts, at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale (FL) and Visual Arts, at the Université du Québec in Montréal.
She has also taken part in sculpting and bronze casting workshops in Creuse, Hossegor and Mornac sur Seudre (France).
Influenced by both naive art and artists such as Jean Dubuffet, Niki de Saint-Phalle, Angel Botello, and Fernando Botero, she often expresses herself in forms and colors that are generous and contrasting.
Her curiosity has led her to mix techniques and materials to give interest to the characters that inhabit her creations. She is drawn to the subjects of the unrealistic, “the Alice in Wonderland” perception of things. She focuses on ideas that do not make perfect sense,
but resonate on the emotional level, through bold shapes and colors.
During her 25 years or more, of growth as an artist, she has remained curious and open to try new things. Along this journey, she has changed course many times and hopes to continue changing course in this wonderful adventure.
“ Art is my playground, my place to be curious, to learn, to engage my mind and my hands. “
