President Clinton's Tribute

This video was pre-recorded and sent by President Clinton to be shown before Magalie received her Innovative Social Sustainability award at the Bravo Award ceremony in Miami. Dona Karan, who was in Haiti at the same time as the award, also sent a pre-recorded video.

President Clinton's speech

"Congratulations Magalie on being the Innovative Social Sustainability Award winner at this year's Bravo Business Award. I can't think of anyone who's more deserving.

Over the last few years it's been a delight to see you emerge as a leader, expanding and diversifying Caribbean Craft and driving Haiti forward for a brighter and more prosperous future. You and your husband and your family and your co-workers you're an inspiration for all of us. Your talent, creativity, your vision and hard work have created hundreds of sustainable jobs for Haiti, and promoted Haitian arts and crafts all around the world.

Even during the tough times, your determination and hope have endured. When the earthquake destroyed your factory, you transferred the entire operation to your home so that your staff could continue earning the much needed income to build their lives and their families' lives back. Whether in sitting in one of your workshops, designing with your artisans or meeting in a boardroom with major international retailers, your entrepreneurial spirit, your leadership capabilities and your belief in your people and your product shine.

Magalie you're an ambassador for the promise of Haitian entrepreneurs and indeed for entrepreneurs everywhere. You demonstrated that sustainable business practices can prevail even during the most difficult times.

So congratulations! It's been an honor to support your efforts, to celebrate your successes, to be your friend... I can't wait to see what you'll accomplish next."

Donna Karan's message

"Hi there Magalie, I'm so sorry I can't be with you. But I'm really not because guess where I am? In Haiti! And there is only one thing that would keep me from being with you right now and this is my trip to Haiti. As we can see that the closest thing to my heart is you and Haiti my paper mache bag and everything you've done for this country is extraordinary. And I can't thank you enough. Love you. Congratulations."
